CWU ‘PRIORITY ADMISSION’ DEADLINE LOOMS

April 10, 2002

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Students applying for enrollment to Central Washington University for the 2002-03 academic year are receiving a letter this week, notifying them of a priority deadline for freshman admission.

Priority admission means CWU will process applications for admissions postmarked by May 1, but those received after that date will be considered on a selective, space available basis, according to Mike Reilly, CWU director of admissions.

“The reason behind priority admission is that freshman applications are up nearly 30 percent from this same time last year,” Reilly notes. “To expedite the process, I would encourage students to apply for admission online at our Web site www.cwu.edu. The application is located in the ‘Admissions’ section of that Web page.”

Transfer student admission will not be affected by the priority admission policy and will remain open until at least Aug. 1, Reilly adds. For more information, call (866) 298-4968, or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-3323.

CWU set a record for fall quarter enrollment this year with 7,980 FTE (full-time equivalent) students, a 4.7 percent increase over the previous year year. Freshman comprised 1,256 of that total, which was also the largest class ever.

“Nobody in the state experienced a larger percentage growth in its freshman class than we did,” Reilly points out.

Current projections are for CWU’s enrollment to grow by several hundred more students during the next academic year.
