ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University will offer a one-day professional development workshop next month to introduce physical education practitioners to new ideas and innovative approaches to teaching in the gym and classroom and ways to integrate assessment into instruction.
Titled P.E.A.K., for Physical Education Activity Kaleidoscope, the class is designed to help participants “learn more about health and fitness assessment and to experience practical sessions illustrating ways to integrate it into their classes,” Sandy Colson, CWU office of continuing education programs manager, says.
The program, offered for one professional development credit or seven clock hours, is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Ellensburg campus. It’s co-sponsored by CWU’s department of physical education, health and leisure services and the office of continuing education.
The $65 registration fee includes check-in refreshments, lunch and a P.E.A.K. T-shirt. A reduced rate is offered for pre-registered university students. School districts registering three or more participants will receive one free workshop registration for every three paid registrations, Colson adds.
Pre-registration is encouraged, but registration will also be available at the door. For more information or for persons of disability to arrange for reasonable accommodation, call (509) 963-1504 or (800) 720-4503, or (for the hearing impaired) TDD (509) 963-3323.
