| Kenton Named CWU V.P. For Business And Financial Affairs | CWU President Jerilyn S. McIntyre announced May 17 that Dr. Jay Kenton would become CWU's vice president for business and financial affairs on July 1, subject to the approval of the university's board of trustees. Kenton is currently the chief financial officer and associate vice president for finance and planning at Portland State University. "We were very pleased with the quality of the candidates who applied for the position," McIntyre says. "I'm delighted that Dr. Kenton will be joining our administrative team. He has a wealth of experience as a business and financial administrator and is a member of the faculty." Kenton was among five finalists for the position, selected from a pool of nearly 100 applicants. |
| CWU Breaks Ground For Its New Music Ed. Facility | CWU's nationally recognized music department broke ground May 15 for phase 1 of the new music education facility. Festivities took place at the building site just east of the Hogue Technology building. The legislature approved a total of $14 million for phase 1 construction. The project will provide a 40,000 square foot, functional building containing the 600-seat concert hall, 150-seat recital hall, four rehearsal rooms, an entry lobby, locker storage, performance library and an administration wind. The building was approved in Washington state's 2001-03 budget. "We feel the legislature was particularly sensitive to Central's needs, and supportive considering the tough budget year," said CWU President Jerilyn S. McIntyre McIntyre. Phase 1 is scheduled for occupancy during the winter 2004 quarter. |
| CWU's Snyder Receives Two Prestigious Awards | Ed Snyder, a Central Washington University facilities management project coordinator, has received the Washington State Productivity Board "Extra Mile" award. Snyder was one of just 10 individuals statewide, out of more than 270 nominated, to receive the award, distributed in conjunction with Public Service Recognition Week 2002. The award is designed to honor a person or group that surpasses expectations for exemplary service, including consistently productive job performance, a positive attitude, an exemplary work ethic and high personal standards. | CWU Selects Distinguished Professors | Central Washington University's 2002-03 Distinguished Professor award recipients are: David Darda, biological sciences, Teaching; Mark Halperin, English, Research/Artistic Accomplishment and Invention; and Corwin King, communication, Public Service. Awards will be presented at Honors Convocation June 7. |
