Welcome to University Recreation

University Recreation at Central Washington University is committed to offering recreation programs that provide personal and professional development for a diverse university community. Our nationally recognized facilities and services support the university mission by promoting an inclusive campus environment. Our programs contribute to the wholeness and wellness of our patrons while providing co-curricular activities that complement other avenues of learning and aid individuals in achieving balance and well roundedness. Through excellent customer service and care for the individual, University Recreation seeks to provide a sense of belonging that enhances retention for students, faculty, and staff.

CWU Pool Children's Policies:
Children ages 6 months - 13 years are allowed to join their parent, who is a current Recreation Center member, for aquatic activities in the CWU Pool during designated Family Hours & Open Recreation swim sessions.

During Family Hours Children may join their parents at no additional cost.

During Open Rec Hours that are outside of Family Hours each child must purchase a daily guest pass ($3) for each swim session.

The parent must be present and actively involved with the child in the Pool at all times. If the Pool occupancy reaches 20, parents and children may be asked to refrain from entering until the occupancy decreases, so that adequate Lifeguard supervision is maintained.

Children age 14-17 may participate in Aquatic activities at the CWU Pool, with a parent on site at no additional cost during family hours and with the purchase of a daily guest pass or current Recreation Center membership during all other operational hours.

Dependents age 18 years and older may participate in designated Open Recreation and Lap Swim sessions by purchasing a daily guest pass or Recreation Center membership. Dependents age 18 years and older may participate in Family Hours at no additional cost.

Services
Locker Rental
Half-lockers are available for rent on a quarterly basis in the men’s, women’s and accessible/family locker rooms for $15 per quarter.

Towel Service
Large shower towels are provided for your use for $2 per quarter.

Equipment Check-Out
We offer a variety of equipment for checkout and use in the facility such as basketballs (men’s and women’s), volleyballs, jump ropes, badminton racquets and birdies, soccer balls and more. We also have items for sale at the Front Desk such as athletic tape, padlocks, yoga/fitness mats and other miscellaneous items.

Peer Nutrition Education
Stay on the right diet path this year by utilizing this FREE nutritional counseling service! Peer Nutrition Education, or PNE, is a free, confidential service provided by CWU nutrition students. PNE offers personalized nutrition education for all Recreation Center members. To sign up, visit the Front Desk of the Recreation Center, the front desk of the Student Health Center, or contact Liv Engelson at live@cwu.edu for more details.

Family Policy
We’ve updated our policies regarding family use of the Recreation Center! Please note the changes below.

  • Children ages 6-13 are allowed to join their parent, who is a member, at no additional cost for activities in the four court gymnasium, on the jogging track, or in the climbing wall, during Family Hours (Saturday and Sunday before 3 pm). The parent must be present and actively involved with the child in the chosen activity. Regarding the climbing wall, the parent must be involved with their child in the climbing activity. Our staff will be present to supervise, however Family Hours are not designed to be an instructional time by our staff. Parents wanting to belay their child will need to obtain a belay certification. A maximum of 8 children can be in the climbing wall at any given time during Family Hours, with a one hour time limit for each child.
  • Children ages 5 and under are NOT allowed to participate during family hours.
  • A member may NOT bring children with them who are not their dependents.
  • Guest Passes can be purchased for use during Family Hours, but each adult guest and each child guest must purchase an individual guest pass at the current rate.
  • Dependents age 14 and older are eligible to purchase a membership to the Recreation Center but those who are age 14-16 must be supervised by a parent at all times.
