CWU’s Mental Health Counseling Students Continue to Score Among the Best.
September 21, 2009

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Graduates of Central Washington University’s Mental Health Counseling program continue to score among the best in the country. This year, the students scored at the 93rd percentile. The test covers eight content areas, and every student passed every section.
“CACREP does not rank schools’ scores. It is always a great sign to score in the top ten percent in the country,” said Robert Brammer, CWU associate psychology professor. “The minimum criteria is a score of 94 and our students scored an average of 121.”

The 200-question, multiple-choice test focuses on human growth and development, social and cultural foundations, helping relationships and other topics. It is a barometer of how well training programs are doing.
“This test meets the requirements in Washington State to become a licensed mental health counselors, as well as the requirements for becoming a nationally certified counselor. It’s the largest national counselor certification program in the world,” Brammer said.

The CWU Mental Health Counseling graduate program trains students through a scientist-practitioner model. Cultural diversity and research are interwoven throughout classes, and graduates are prepared to help individuals, couples, families, adolescents and children. It prepares students to counsel in a variety of settings, including private practices, nonprofits, hospitals and schools.

The M.S. Experimental Psychology has started new web page to show off its accomplishments. You can read more about Applied Behavior Analysis here.

The Counseling Programs are hosting a multicultural presentation with the Washington Mental Health Counseling Association (WMHCA). You may see the flyer here.
