About Us

Physics is the empirical, mathematical and physical basis for all natural science and engineering. Physics is about articulating and solving problems through observation, experimentation and explanation. The skills and knowledge you develop in physics are useful in a variety of fields. About half of our physics majors go into fields as diverse as engineering, software development and teaching. The other half go on to graduate school in physics or another field.

All of the physics major programs at Central contain elements of observation, experimentation and explanation. The intellectual excitement of understanding the world around you, and the widely applicable skills of problem solving, quantitative reasoning, and developing experiments are integral parts of our curriculum.

All programs emphasize the careful development of key physics concepts. This emphasis is intended to produce the habits of independent study and self improvement essential to success after graduation.

Classical Mechanics
Modern Physics
Quantum Mechanics
Electricity and Magnetism
Thermodynamics
