K-12 Physical Education Teaching MajorRequired Classes | Frequently Asked Questions | Application Today's physical education has undergone a radical transformation. Compared with the practices of only a few years ago, emphasis is now placed on motivating children to become healthy adults who will pursue active lifestyles. To this end, CWU's Physical Education program teaches students instructional skills in a wide range of health-promoting activities. Our goal is to prepare effective teachers who will dedicate themselves to helping children of all ability levels to be physically competent and well. We strive to instill in our students the desire to help others experience the joy of movement. In addition to preparing as teachers of physical education, students in our program complete coursework in health education. As graduates of our 78-credit major, they receive a K-12 endorsement in Health and Fitness, which qualifies them to teach both physical education and health education in Washington State's public schools. Health and Fitness Supporting AreaRequired Classes | Class Schedule | Application Students who major in fields other than Physical Education or Health Education may opt to complete a minor in Health and Fitness. This option entails a selection of classes from each of our two programs. Upon completing our 42-credit minor, students receive an endorsement in Health and Fitness, which qualifies them to teach both physical education and health education in Washington State's public schools. Coaching MinorRequired Classes | Application | Field Experience Application | Evaluation | Journal Writing Guidelines Students who are mainly interested in coaching can major in their field of choice while completing a series of courses that earn them a minor in Coaching. CWU's Coaching Minor meets comprehensive standards required of public school coaches by the WIAA.
