This lesson-activity relates to the unit, because it is a
social/emotional approach in which children comprehend the awareness of
different feelings caused in distinct situations. It enhances an awareness of otherÕs personal information and
how they are alike and or different by viewing other classmateÕs visual

using a variety of media and formats. c. Develop cultural
understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other

about various cultures; and visual aid charts provided by kidspiration

Grouping Students for
Instruction:
¯ Students will work in groups and
individually based on personal connections.
¯ Students will help each other when
finished with own work.
¯ Students will have a right to pass if not
comfortable with sharing out loud (teacher or friend will share visual aid for
them) others will share out loud to class.
LEARNING EXPERIENCES:
Direct
Instruction
Anticipatory Set: While sitting in circle area of classroom (transition)
children will see the ÒBookÓ prop up on easel. We will conduct a KWL chart on book. What do you know about the book and what do you
want to find out? Will be the first questions addressed before the story. What have we learned will be after the
story in which then leads to the book extension activity to the table.
Modeling: I will introduce the activity prior to dismissal to
tables. I will instruct how we
will initiate a feelings collage from magazines first. Second I will introduce the kidspiration program software on computers and inform them
that this graphic organizer will be our method of writing about our self to
share with the others. (8min.)
Guided Practice: Next I will have my students repeat to me what I stated in
their own words. I will answer all
questions then I will transition them to activity. (3-5min)
Independent Practice: After the studentÕs completed a simple feelings collage from
magazines (I will support them here to as to making sure they understand the
facial expressions on peopleÕs faces) They will then use the kidspiration 3 to start their actual activity to be shared
in class.
Checking for
Understanding/Questions: I will make my self-available at the
computers for help. Children who
get help on computer from me and finish first, as to working with kidÕs
software, will be able to assist others.
Also I will ask students questions like, ÒWhy are you special, how many
in your family, and or things you dislike and like?Ó If student is not clear I will point out our KWL chart in
which children in the story felt and hadÉ or ÒYou see what you did here
(magazine collage) you have a happy face on such feelingÉ (just
questions that will help my students focus on the outcome).
Closure: Based on the actual print out- activity I will ask my
students, ÒTell me about your drawing/activity; ÒTell me what you learned about
feelings.Ó Before they present I
will have them work in groups to talk about likes/dislikesÉ any
connections?
Assessment Strategy: (Portfolio- observation check list) I will assess while students present in
class to their peers and teacher. For
those who pass I will do it privately right after the actual
presentations.
