Office for Equal Opportunity: Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

I have several applicants who haven't submitted everything we've asked for. Their application is not complete. Do we screen them? What do we do?

Those people who have not submitted ALL parts of the application, as stipulated on the position announcement, are not considered applicants. They should not be screened.

It is suggested that the secretary to the search committee keep these incomplete applications separate from the complete ones. If and when an application is completed, the candidate is considered an applicant and their application can be reviewed.

This situation points out the need to be deliberate about what an application should include. Oftentimes, search committee members will complain that they cannot screen a good candidate because they didn't submit some small portion of the application packet. The question then should become: Do we need that small portion of the application in order to determine who to hire?

What is the phone number/website/address/fax number for...(a newspaper, recruitment resource, etc.)?

Check this webpage: Instructions for Employment Advertising. It gives blanket purchase orders for about thirty advertising sources. It also gives phone numbers, websites, and fax numbers. Check it out as a first course of action. This webpage also has helpful information about advertising in general.

Where do I get the Applicant Survey Cards?

With the viability of PeopleAdmin in 2006, most candidates submit the affirmative action information when asked within the electronic process. However, some people prefer to submit the information anonymously or chose not to utilize the electronic application process. There are two other options available.

There is an online version at http://www.cwu.edu/~oeo/ApplicantSurvey.html. Applicants are informed of this URL in PeopleAdmin, in the application acceptance letter or via e-mail if you have been communicating with applicants electronically.

Hard copies of the cards are still available from OEO. Contact them at 963-2205. Whether you send a hard copy or the URL, we suggest sending the information out as soon as an application is received.
