Accounting
Faculty and staff are not involved in planning department's facilities.
Anthropology
The new Dean Hall space will house the current collections and provide exhibit space. The Mammoth project will likely stretch the limits of the new space. The current archaeological collections will be housed either in the basement of Dean Hall, or in the current museum collections store rooms in Farrell Hall. Our goal is to have all of our research and museum materials in Dean Hall if at all possible.
Adequate lab space, and specially designed NAGPRA repository, research and office space have been planned into the second floor of Dean Hall.
Art
All faculty and staff provide direct guidance in determining how and what is developed in curriculum and facilties through formal discussion at faculty meetings and informal discussions among colleagues that then develops into a deparment proposal. Student end of program assessment and student comments on SEOIs also guide faculty in identifying facility needs. Outside funding and support is sought when needed such as with capital improvements. For smaller projects internal or college funding is obtained.
Aviation
A new building will be built to replace the old one at the airport. Facilities has an inadequate amount of money slated for replacement of the old flight training devices (see previous section 7) so faculty are working to meet budgetary requirements and determine best option for FTD purchase based on limited funding available.
Biology
Chemistry
Faculty and staff meet at least annually to discuss facilities. Space and instrumentation needs are assessed and a plan is developed for at least the upcoming year. Long term planning has been general as we have tried to plan for faculty with unknown areas of expertise.
Communication
All faculty were involved in discussion of the needs for the department. The chair, and the faculty television studio manager have followed through on developing the needs program with Space Planning Office.

Geography
In terms of developing adequate facilities, the department has been working for the past several years with the administration on securing space in the currently abandoned Dean Hall, which is the old Chemistry and Biology building that has been sitting vacant now for almost a decade. We currently look forward to relocating during the fall of 2008 into that building, which will also then house the Anthropology and Museum Studies Department, along with the shared Resource Management graduate program.
Geology
Inclusion of department members is essential for planning and design. When facility changes are proposed, faculty and staff engage in discussions internally (i.e., in the department) as well as with experts on (i.e., facilities) and off campus (i.e., architects, contractors) to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses curricular and research needs. For most of the proposed changes, department participation is high. We welcome the opportunity to contribute to the planning and design processes. Science Phase II is a good example. Several department members represented the department on the committee, but all faculty and staff spend many hours reviewing space allocation, and discussing how we can design space that is useful but flexible in design.

The department as a whole discusses in faculty meetings the need for any additional resources - technology, space, hardware, software, etc. Last year, ITS approved the move of our dedicated lab from one that seated 23 students to one that seats 28 students.

Department faculty members are usually simply told that classrooms have been lost, or that room configurations are going to be changed. In particular, we recently lost our last two good chalkboard rooms in the building after asking that they be preserved.

(January 2008)
Faculty and staff requests are a significant driving force in determining our facility needs. Recent examples have been upgrading counseling session recording and playback system in the the Community Counseling and Psychological Assessment Center from analog to digital equipment, pressing for more presentation hardware stations in classrooms, and our current concern for upgrading our animal research facilities.

Faculty and staff are key players in facility planning. Regular semi-annual meetings are held to establish priority lists of needs. These lists include space needs, equipment needs as well as small tools and shop or classroom enhancements. This planning has been invaluable. As administration announces programs to fund special projects, department leaders can move quickly to develop requests with the needs lists well documented by faculty and staff.
