Hello,
my name is Rachel Nesvig. I am currently a graduate student at Central
Washington University, pursuing my Masters in Violin Performance and
obtaining my K-12 teaching certificate. One of my favorite
teaching experiences has been conducting a middle school orchestra once
a week called the Debut Orchestra. This orchestra is part of the
Preparatory Strings Program at CWU which I will be the program director
of during the 2009-2010 academic year. I have learned so much
from my
students and from all the education classes that I have taken.
I received my undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College in
2007 with a double major in Music and Norwegian. I play a
Norwegian folk instrument called the Hardanger Fiddle and I would like
to incorporate Norwegian music and culture into my music teaching.
I hope to teach internationally, as well as in Washington
state, in order to learn more about music and cultures from other
countries. Although orchestra music is my forte, I am very
interested in teaching general music to all ages as well!
Teaching and music are both strong passions of mine and I hope to
make a difference in my future students' lives.
