Dr. John Cody Birdwell
John Cody Birdwell is currently Director of Bands at the University of Kentucky. Prior to that, Birdewll was Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where his duties included conducting the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directing the master's and doctoral programs in band conducting, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in instrumental conducting and literature, and supervising the administration of the Texas Tech band program in the School of Music. Prior to his appointment at Texas Tech in 1998, Dr. Birdwell served as Director of Bands at Utah State University from 1994-1998, Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Illinois from 1989 - 1994, and Director of Bands at Northern Michigan University from 1987-1989. Dr. Birdwell's experiences also include several years as a band director in the public schools of Denton, Texas.
Dr. Birdwell's ensembles have toured extensively throughout the United States and Great Britain, and the Texas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble has performed recently at the 2001 National Convention of the College Band Directors National Association and the 2001 Texas Music Educators Association Convention. Birdwell's ensembles have also performed at the Southwest Division and Western Division Conferences Conventions of CBDNA, the Texas Bandmaster's Association Conference, and for the Utah Music Educators Association. The recently released compact disc, "Texas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble - LIVE!" has been received with high praises from composers and conductors throughout the United States and Europe.

| Birdwell is a graduate of West Texas State University where he received degrees in Music Education and Conducting, and he received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting from the University of North Texas. While at North Texas, Birdwell was inducted into "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities", and was a recipient of the Pi Kappa Lambda Class Honor Award for Outstanding Doctoral Student in the College of Music. Dr. Birdwell currently serves as Chairman of the Selective Music List Committee for the National Band Association. He holds memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Utah Music Educators Association, Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, Illinois Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, and the Music Educators National Conference. He remains active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States. Band and Conducting. |

Dr. Eric Hammer
Eric Hammer is professor of music education, director of bands in the Conservatory of Music, and has been at the University of the Pacific since 1993. He holds the B.M. degree from the University of the Pacific, the M.M. degree in conducting and the D.M.A. in music education and conducting from the University of Oregon. He has held teaching positions at Los Medanos College and Diablo College.
In the Conservatory, Dr. Hammer teaches brass techniques class, principles of conducting, band development, band literature and organization, conducts the University Concert Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, supervises the Pep Band, and serves as advisor to woodwind, voice, and piano music education students at the freshman and sophomore levels.
Dr. Hammer is the vice president of College Band Directors National Association, a past-president of Bay Section California Music Educators, a member of Music Educators National Conference, California Band Directors Association, World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and is conductor of the Diablo Wind Symphony. |
Dr. Andrew Collinsworth
Andy Collinsworth is the new Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Sonoma State University, where his teaching duties include the university’s Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Chamber Winds, Conducting, and all aspects of the Music Education program.
Dr. Collinsworth received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Master of Music degree in Applied Saxophone from the University of Nevada at Reno. He recently completed the Doctor of the Musical Arts degree in Wind Band Conducting at Arizona State University, where studied with Gary W. Hill.
Prior to his appointment at SSU, Dr. Collinsworth taught instrumental music for 18 years in various public schools. His bands at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, CA. were recognized throughout the state for their superior level of performance. He has served as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator for numerous bands and organizations throughout California. His doctoral project, a critical edition full score to Samuel Barber’s Commando March, is currently under review for publication by G. Schirmer.
Dr. Collinsworth is a member of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), the National Association of Music Education (MENC), the former Vice President of the California Band Directors Association (CBDA), the Past President of the Northern California Band Directors Association (NCBDA), a former board member of the California Music Educators Association Bay Section (CMEA), and an honorary member of the Kappa Kappa Psi band fraternity. |
