Music: Audition Information

Admission Audition Requirements
For New Voice Students

In order to complete your acceptance into the CWU Department of Music program, you must audition for the music faculty. This gives us an opportunity to hear the level you have achieved in your musical skills and it gives you the opportunity to discuss your development with collegiate instructors.

For your audition we recommend the following:

1. Select music which best displays your performance level.
2. We strongly recommend you prepare your audition material under the supervision of your private teacher and/or music director.

For Voice Students Pursuing a Performance Degree
If you would like to audition for admission to the BM in Performance, we recommend preparing and performing pieces that best demonstrate your current skills.  We suggest only that you choose carefully so as to present what you do well, not what you have yet to learn. Requirements:

1. Two songs or arias (one in a foreign language)

For Voice Students Pursuing a Music Ed. or Composition Degree

Requirements:

1. One prepared song or aria in any language.
2. Students may be asked to perform tonal memory evaluation.

In addition to an audition, students should also expect to interview with Music Education or Composition faculty as a part of their visit to campus.

To make an appointment for an audition:
All students who want to major or minor in a degree program with Voice as the major instrument must audition for the voice faculty in order to be accepted to their degree program.Open House Audition Dates are January 14 and 15, 2010 – CWU Music Building, Ellensburg. Seattle auditions are January 30, 2010 – Soundbridge, Benaroya Hall Seattle.To schedule an audition for the above dates contact: Marcie Brown mbrown@cwu.edu after September 1.

For scholarship consideration, vocal auditions should be scheduled during our annual Open House in January. For accommodation at another time, please contact Dr. Marra.

Large Ensemble Audition Requirements
For New and Returning Voice Students

University Chorale and Men's Chorale do not require auditions. Visit the Choral Pages concerning audition information for the other vocal ensembles or contact Dr. Gary Weidenaar.
