Opera at CWU

The Voice Area of the Department of Music serves upward from 60 students per quarter with private studio voice lessons (applied lessons) to meet the requirements for the degree programs below as well as all other programs where voice is the major instrument or voice study is recommended as a secondary instrument. We also serve the Music Minor when enrollment numbers permit.

  • Bachelor of Music (BM) Vocal Performance Major
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music (BA) with Voice as the major instrument

The Voice Area is committed to delivering both challenging and supportive instruction for the development of healthful and reliable technical skill. Courses in history, literature, diction and opera are also taught by the voice faculty.

Other performance opportunities include the CWU Theatre Arts Department and the local Ellensburg Laughing Horse Summer Musical Theatre which also produce musicals.

Auditions

All students who would like to major, or minor, in a degree program with Voice as the major instrument, must audition for the voice faculty in order to be accepted to their degree program.

 

Instructors

There are three full-time instructors and two part-time instructors who serve the Voice Area by teaching individual lessons to music students. They are all members of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, NATS
