Music: Sonata-Sonatina

Overview:

The Sonata-Sonatina Festival gives students of high school age and younger the opportunity to perform before a judge, compete with other students and receive a critique of their performance.

The 2008 Sonata-Sonatina Festival is divided into 14 levels represented by one Sonatina or Sonata selected from various composers and levels of difficulty. Students may enter only one level and must perform their pieces by memory. Students may use any edition and are required to present their chosen edition (with numbered measures) to the adjudicator at their audition. Pieces are to be performed without repeats.

Up to two students from each level will be chosen for the Honors Recital . Judges will determine first and second place winners based on the student's performances in the Honors Recital. Up to three additional students from each group may be chosen to receive Honorable Mention Awards. All participants will receive a 2008 Sonata-Sonatina Participation Ribbon.
