Opera at CWU
Opera is a growing and vital part of the CWU Vocal Program, producing at least one operatic production each year. The CWU Opera Workshop provides a positive learning experience for music students in all aspects of stagecraft and performance which culminates in an enjoyable offering of polished operatic entertainment for the Ellensburg community.

We are pleased to announce the 2010 Opera Workshop production will be The Tender Land by Aaron Copland which will be featured as part of the Presidential Performing Arts Series.

In addition to the annual opera production, CWU offers a variety of courses in operatic training, such as Diction for Singers, Opera History and Acting for Singers. Students are given the opportunity to coach and work on operatic repertoire in private voice lessons as well as in Weekly Studio Classes with CWU faculty members. Master classes with visiting professionals from the Seattle Opera and elsewhere also help students perfect their operatic repertoire.

CWU opera productions are often accompanied by the fine CWU Chamber Orchestra conducted by Dr. Nikolas Caoile providing invaluable experience to the singers on stage and the orchestral players in the pit.

Student interest in opera is supported by the Vocal Music Alliance Club which provides financial support to the Opera Workshop as well as providing students with performance opportunities at the popular Bella Notte event and by providing some funding for the NATS competition. VMA also organizes student trips to see professional operas and shows outside of Ellensburg.

Please contact Dr. Gayla Blaisdell with any questions. We’d love to share the excitement of opera at CWU with you!
