Admission Audition Requirements
For New Piano Students

In order to complete your acceptance into the CWU Department of Music program, you must audition for the music faculty. This gives us an opportunity to hear the level you have achieved in your musical skills and it gives you the opportunity to discuss your development with collegiate instructors.

For your audition we recommend the following:

  1. Select music which best displays your performance level.
  2. We strongly recommend you prepare your audition material under the supervision of your private teacher and/or music director.

Requirements
Two contrasting pieces of moderate to advanced difficulty that most strongly demonstrate the student's performance abilities.  The auditioning pianist may choose works ranging from the Baroque to the Modern eras.  For example, a Two-Part Invention or Prelude and Fugue of Bach and a sonata movement by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven would serve as suitable repertoire for an audition.  Exceptions to these requirements will be considered.

Contact Dr. John Pickett for more information concerning piano auditions.

Ensemble Audition Requirements
For New and Returning Piano Students

Jazz Band auditions will take place during the first week of each new quarter. You will contact Mr. Chris Bruya to schedule an audition time for Jazz Ensemble Piano auditions.
