MUST I BE A MUSIC MAJOR?

Absolutely not!

WHO MUST AUDITION?

If you wish to be considered for Chamber Choir, you may start with a "Vocal Intervew" , after which you'll know if you qualify for an Audition. Bottom line - a full audition is required to enter the groups. Dr. Weidenaar will audition people privately in their offices.

AUDITIONS CONSIST OF . . .

1) Singing. Plan to sing 60-90 seconds of an aria or art song - unaccompanied. Also, learn your part for the Niels La Cour - Hodie if you are auditioning for Chamber Choir. It may be found HERE

2) Vocalizing. You will vocalize through your range.

3) Pitch Retention. You will sing back series of pitches after they are played for you on the piano.

4) Sight reading. Rhythm Skills, pitch skills, and interval knowledge will be tested.

TO PREPARE . . .

Prepare an art song or aria (60-90 seconds - unaccompanied) and, for Chamber Choir Auditions - you part on THIS piece

I NEED TO HAVE THIS INFO WITH ME. . .

IMPORTANT - PLEASE ARRIVE 10-15 minutes before your scheduled time to fill out the necessary and important paperwork. It will greatly help if you know your student number, phone and address, and email address. Female Chamber Choir hopefuls will also try on and get sized for the required outfit.

I'VE ALREADY ENROLLED FOR Chamber Choir
OR
I HAVEN'T YET ENROLLED for Chamber Choir

It is very common for singers to go through drops and adds to change the ensemble in which they have been enrolled.

You will need a permission number from Dr. Weidenaar. There is no need to physically sign up for chamber choir before its first rehearsal. You are given until Tuesday, Sept. 25 by the registrar's office to drop and add with no penalty . After that time a 75$ fee is assessed

If you have signed up, you may drop one choir and replace it with another (if needed) - see your instructor for how..

TWO COURSE & LINE NUMBERS . . .

Although there are two line numbers for Chamber Choir, it is the same ensemble. The lower course number (in the 200's) is for freshman and sophomores, the upper number (in the 400's) generally for juniors or seniors. In the case of certain choirs, the upper line number (in the 500's) is a number for graduate students.
