CWU Symphonic Wind Ensemble

The Central Washington University Symphonic Wind Ensemble has performed at state, regional, and national conventions. The group has performed on 4 occassions at the MENC Northwest Division Conference under the direction of Professor Larry Gookin. In 1995, the ensemble was selected to perform at the National CBDNA conference in Boulder, Colo., and in 2001 the group was one of four university bands from the United States invited to perform for the American Bandmasters Association conference in Las Vegas, Nev. The CWU Wind Ensemble also has performed at Northwestern/Western CBDNA Division Conferences in Reno, Nev., the Western International Band Clinics in Portland and Seattle, and several Washington Music Educators Conferences.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs contemporary and traditional literature, seeking a balance between transcriptions, marches and original wind ensemble compositions. The ensemble was consortium host for David Maslanka's "Song Book for Flute and Wind Ensemble", performed on the CWU campus during the spring of 2002, with solo flutist Professor Hal Ott.

Former members of the CWU Symphonic Wind Ensemble currently perform in orchestras, service bands, jazz bands, community bands, and various chamber ensembles throughout the country. many graduates have continued their education as teaching assistants at outstanding graduate schools, and many have become exemplary music teachers in the public schools, in private study, and in higher education.
