Bands : Mark Lane, Assistant Director of Bands

Mark Lane comes to CWU after 27 years of public school teaching. Mr. Lane will serve as Assistant Director of Bands, teach music education, and will advise the CMENC organization. He holds a BA from Eastern Washington University and a MA from the University of Oregon.

Mr. Lane was awarded Educator of the Year five times and has received two Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association. During his tenure at Kennewick, the program was awarded the Tri-City Crystal Apple Award for excellence in education. The music program also received three GRAMMY Signature Awards. In 2001, Mark was awarded the Sudler Order of Merit of the John Phillip Sousa Foundation and was inducted into the BANDWORLD Legion of Honor. Mark's groups have performed at the Oregon State Music Educators Conference, the Washington Music Educators Conference, the Music Educators National Northwest Conference, and the Western International Band Clinic. In addition, his groups performed at the 1994 and 2002 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and the 1999 and 2001 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival.

Mark is a frequent clinician and adjudicator around the Northwest and has conducted and presented clinics in New Mexico and Alaska. His articles on music education have been published in the Washington Music Educators Journal, Fanfare Magazine, Bands of America, Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association Journal, the National Federation Interscholastic Music Association Journal, and the Association of Secondary Administrators Journal. Mark is a member of the National Band Association and has served on the Washington Music Educators Executive Board for the past eight years. He is currently President-Elect of the Washington Music Educators Association.
