Admissions
The CWU Music department provides a comprehensive program offering both performance, education and graduate degree programs. Over 300 music majors pursue Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music as well as Master of Music degrees making CWU one of the largest music programs in the Northwest. In addition, many students who are not majors take private instruction or participate in an ensemble for their own enjoyment. |

All entering students, prospective composers included, who
plan to pursue either a major or a minor in the Department of
Music must demonstrate their performance ability before a faculty
committee. Based on this audition, the Music Department will
determine the student's admissibility into a specific major or
minor area. Students who do not qualify initially for admission
into the Department may be placed on departmental probation. This
will allow them to enroll in some basic musicianship classes and
pursue applied study on either the group or the secondary level.
Probationary students may use the quarter-ending jury as an
audition for reconsideration of their admission to the Music
Department. |

| Graduate |
The GRE examination is not required for admission to the
Department of Music Graduate Studies.
- Candidates for admission
must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a
major in music or its equivalent.
- Acceptance into a specific
major field will require an evaluation of the candidate's ability
conducted by a committee of three faculty members, two of whom
will be from the candidate's particular major field.
- Non-performance majors must also demonstrate a level of musicianship equal to what would be considered appropriate for 300-level study. Students may demonstrate this level of musicianship in several ways, appropriate to the desired degree program, or deemed appropriate by the evaluation committee after consultation with the student.
