Ensemble Audition Information

TO: All New and Returning Music Students
FROM: Nikolas Caoile, Larry Gookin, Mark Lane
DATE: September 2007
SUBJECT: Fall 2007 Large Instrumental Ensemble Auditions

Audition excerpts for the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra/Chamber Orchestra are available below as .PDF files. Auditions will be no more than 10 minutes in length. Each student is responsible for tempo, musicality, and style of each excerpt. It is strongly recommended that each auditioning student find and listen to recordings of the excerpts if possible.

Students who are not interested in auditioning for the more advanced ensembles (Orchestra and Wind Ensemble), or who have not received the audition material in advance, may choose sections from a solo or an etude as your audition material. it would be appropriate to perform a section that shows your technique and a slow section that displays phrasing, tone quality and musical expression.

Wind players auditioning for Orchestra and Wind Ensemble should sign up for the first hour of auditions when possible. If you can't make any of the posted audition times, please see Professors Caoile, Gookin, or Lane.

Strings sign up for audition times in room 108 - Professor Caoile's office
Woodwind and Brass sign up for audition times in room 109 - Professor Gookin's office
Percussionists - please see Professor Goodenberger, room 167.
