A Brief History

Hookah & Shisha Central is a family owned business that is rapidly growing-it has about double it's business every year since it has opened! It was started in a dorm room in college by founder Same Romman. He would take requests for hookah pipes and shisha whenever he would go to Jordan. The business kept growing, and eventually Romman teamed up with his brother Ronnie Romman, to create one of the largest Hookah retailers in the world.

How it's Run

They use flex space to run the office, and have a warehouse to run their packaging operations and retail sales department. They have several storage facilities for all their products, but the most important are the climate-controlled tobacco store rooms. They store their shisha at a constant 65 degrees to ensure the shisha is of the highest quality. Howver, there is no retail store- they are a purely internet-based company.

Hookah Affiliates

This is a program they have designed to get customers involved in their company and to help spread word about them. They set the customers up with 40 business cards that have a specific URL. Once someone makes a purchase after logging on through that URL, the affiliate receives a 10% commission in the form of store credit (reward points). Another common trend that is popping up are affiliate sites. They will pay 10-20% on customer orders back in cash! As the site creates more sales, the percentage earned from each sale is raise. A great opportunity and easy way to make some money.

Best Sellers

Some of the best selling hookahs are the Mya and Egyptian hookahs. As for shisha, the most popular brands right now ar Romman, Al Waha, and Starbuzz. However, there are always more shisha tobacco makers joining the market, so it is constantly changing.

New Items

Hookah-Shisha Central does it's best to test all new items before they sell them. They also rely on their employees for input, considering their thoughts, concerns, insight and any other information they may have, as they consider each employee to be a hookah-master within their own rights.

Reward Points

This is an idea that an employee came up with. Every product you purchase has a point value. These points accumulate in your account and translate basically into store credit. After you have accumulated points, you can use them to take money off you next purchase!

Favorites

I asked Operations Manager Jonathan Fair what some of his favorite hookahs and brands of shisha are. One hookah he feels everyone should try is the Old School Rotator hookah, which you can find in my Pipes Worth a Look section. However, he felt the all time best buy was the Egyptian 2 Hose Sphinx hookah (also in Pipes Worth a Look). The Sphinx is now made in their factory, assuring the highest quality.

His favorite shisha is definitely the Romman Tobacco (found in the Shisha section). The Rommans teamed up with an over-seas partner to produce this high-quality shisha. Much time is put into producing this shisha, and "quality over quantity" is stressed. Some of his favorite flavors are the Plum and Peach flavors.
