Welcome to Hookah Heaven, a site bringing you the latest information on Hookahs, Shisha, and how to have the best hookah smoking experience. For those of you not familiar with the art of Hookah smoking, a brief description is below.
Hookah pipes originated in Turkey over 500 years ago, and have many different names, such as Hookah and Nargile. A Hookah has a base, a shaft, and a bowl on top. Shisha tobacco (also called tabac, guza, moassel...) is a molasses tobacco that is put into the bowl. The base is filled with water, and the shaft placed in the base. The bowl is then placed on top of the shaft. Charcoal is placed on top of the shisha, and slowly cooks it (doesn't burn it). A hookah smoker will inhale through a hose attached to the shaft. This pulls the smoke down from the bowl, through the shaft and into the base. Once in the base, the smoke is filtered through water and then goes out to the smoker through the hose. For a visual aid, check out the Hookah Pipe section. The shisha tobacco does not have tar like cigarettes, and has a much smaller amount of nicotine, making it less addictive and better for you than cigarettes.
I would also like to thank Hookah & Shisha Central for all of their help in providing information and images for this site.
Enjoy!
