The preferred browser for Blackboard 9 for Windows XP, Vista and for OS X 10.3 and higher on the Mac is Firefox 3 and higher. If you don't have it download it at http://www.mozilla.com.

Browser Compatibility Concerns

Please read the information below carefully to determine the correct browser to use for your computer operating system and Blackboard.

Consult the Browser Compatibility Guide to choose a browser compatible with your computer platform and Blackboard:

Supported Browsers.pdf

AOL – The AOL and MSN browsers are not compatible with Blackboard.  This does not mean that AOL or MSN cannot be used as the Internet Service Provider; rather, a different web browser should be used once you are connected to the Internet.

If you are using the Respondus LockDown Browser

LockDownBrowser is a "client" application that is installed to local computers. While currently Firefox 3 or higher is recommended for Blackboard 9 to use the LockDown Browser you will need to have IE 7 or 8 on your computer to run it on Windows and Safari Browser on a Mac. The computer requirements for the Windows version are as follows:

  • - Windows Vista, XP, 2000, ME, 98
  • - Internet Explorer 7 or 8 (configured to the requirements for the Blackboard platform)
  • - 2 MB of permanent space on the hard drive

The computer requirements for the Macintosh version are as follows:

  • - Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher
  • - Safari browser (configured to the requirements for Blackboard)
  • - 2 MB of permanent hard drive space
