IT'S TIME FOR A BEHAVIORAL CHANGE!!

Introduction
Through research we have been able
to recognize the benefits of being physical active and the positive factors of
living a healthy lifestyle and what it can do for ones self. Unfortunately, in the last twenty
years, the proportion of overweight children between the ages of 6-19 has
tripled. This number is greatly
related to a lack of physical activity along with a lack of knowledge for
healthy choices. Research has
founded that those who are physical active and chose to live a healthier
lifestyle are at lesser risk of dying from heart disease, developing diabetes,
colon cancer and high blood pressure.
As a physical educator it is my job to improve the health of children
through physical activity and give them the essential tools to continue a healthy
lifestyle.
Task
For this project students will
be asked to take a longevity quiz that predicts how long they will live. Then according to their findings they
will chose two current behaviors that they would like to change. They will document their positive
behavioral change every day in a journal or any type of document of their
choice. After two weeks of
recoding their behaviors, they will partner up with a student of their choice
and go over how they may or may not be changing their behavior in a positive
manner. They will then go over ways
in which to improve their current behavior or stay on track with the current
behavioral change. The students
will then retake the longevity quiz and see how their behavioral change has
affected the new outcome. Lastly,
the students will retake the longevity quiz. Then they will write an entire report based on their
behavioral changes. They will
compare the scores of their first longevity quiz to their last longevity quiz
and document how they feel their behavioral changes have influenced their scores.
There will be grade mark checks
throughout the process to make sure students are staying on task and
documenting their findings. Their
final grade will be based on their entire paper that is a rite up of all of
their findings combined with the grade mark checks.
The Process
Provided below are questions
that may probe the students to fufil the requirement of both the journal
entries as well as the final reflection paper. The students are not obligated to answer each questions and
may produce reflection questions of their own. You may use these questions as a guide to help you come up
with questions of your own as well.
1. Take the
longevity quiz prior to participating in this process.
2. Name some
positive behaviors you are currently displaying.
3. Name some
negative behaviors you are currently displaying.
3. What current behaviors have shown
negative effects from the longevity quiz taken.
4. How exactly are
those negative behaviors listed decreases the amount of years in ones life.
5. What are the two behavioral changes you
are choosing to change.
6. Record a day to
day journal entry on your particular behavioral changes.
7. Pair up with a student to discuss your
current behaviors thus far.
8. Either continue
your positive behavioral change or make more goals toward your positive
behavioral changes.
9. Retake the
longevity quiz.
10. Record your new longevity score and list in detail the
changes or lack of changes that you have made.
11. Write up a report based on your findings and journal
entries.

and in order to gain the maximum points students must complete in detail every
section of the rubric.

Conclusion
In the completion of this
project I hope you have gained a new perspective on healthy behaviors and how
they can either negatively or positively affect your life. Through this project each student
should have learned not only about healthy behavioral changes but something
about their self as well. Each
student had the opportunity to make a positive behavioral change and hopefully
through this process that was made.
