Archaeology Month
AWA helps sponsor Washington State Archaeology Month, now managed by Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP). Past Archaeology Months have introduced thousands of Washington residents to their state history, through dozens of state wide talks, tours and displays. Watch this space for more information on events and volunteer opportunities. Washington State will celebrate its twelfth annual Archaeology Month this October Archaeology Month consists of a series of statewide events held in local communities to create a public awareness about the importance of protecting Washington’s archaeological heritage. To receive a free poster, calendar of events, and activity guide please provide your complete mailing address to zeeh@cted.wa.gov or call (360) 586-3065. They make great teaching aids and useful information for future contacts. Museums, tribal nations, archaeologists, federal, state, and local government agencies, universities, and local school districts all work together to present educational events about the importance of protecting Washington's archaeological heritage.
