Student Employment Opportunities:

Math Help Center Tutors

To qualify to be a Math Help Center tutor, you must:

  • Be a Math Education or Math major or Math minor
  • 2.7 or better GPA in mathematics courses
  • Have completed courses at least through Calculus I
  • Agree to take the Tutor Training course (1 credit), EDF201, before or during the first quarter of employment

The application process is as follows:

  • Submit a letter of interest to Erin Lee, UMC Director, outlining why you are interested in this position and why you would make a good math tutor.
  • Attach a resume
  • Turn in paperwork to Jennifer Hawks, department secretary, in Hertz Hall, 101.

Help Center tutors will be used during the hours the center is open and may also be assigned one-on-one tutoring with developmental math students. Math 100B course teaching assistants will be chosen from successful Help Center tutors. UMC Clerical Aide

To apply for a position as a student clerical aide at the University Math Center, the following must be in place:

  • Check with Jennifer Hawks, department secretary, to see if there are any available positions
  • Be work-study eligible
  • Complete clerical aide application form
  • Attach a resume (optional)

The UMC Help Center hires student tutors on an as need basis but fulfilling the requirements to apply may be done at any time and turned in to the department secretary in Hertz Hall 101. For other tutoring opportunities, please see the Student Employment Job Board.
