Introduction

Question   Discussion
Have you ever thought about how you learn?         think

Do you prefer to see things, hear things, or touch things?      eyes     ear   touch

The way we learn or prefer to learn is known as our "Learning Style".

We each learn and process information differently. No one way is better than another. Learning styles have nothing to do with your intelligence level, it is the way you process information. Why do you think it might be important to know your learning style?

If you can better understand how you learn, you can reduce frustration, and improve achievement. By understanding your learning style you can ease irritation that you may encounter in the classroom. With this information you can think about the way you study, the way you memorize things, the way you communicate, etc... All of these components are tied to your achievement level.

This project will also give me more information about you and I can use it as well to change my teaching style to help you be more successful in my classroom.

You are going to find out what your learning style is!!!

Task
checklist   You will be doing a WebQuery on your learning style.

What does that mean, you ask? Here is what you are responsible for doing on this assignment.

  • You will go to a computer and find out more information about learning styles from the web.
  • You will find out what type of learning style you have.
  • You will do a minimum of two questionnaires, quizzes, or tests.
  • You can create either a poster, Power Point presentation, paper, or another form approved by the teacher that will include the following information;
    • List the different types of learning styles.
    • Give a brief explanation of each learning style.
    • List the questionnaires, quizzes, or tests that you took, and list the web page address. (minimum 2)
    • Give a brief summary of the results from at least two of your options chosen.
    • List at least 10 things you learned about your learning style.
    • Tell how you are going to use this new information to help you at school and at home.
    • Set one goal for yourself, using the information you obtained.
    • You will state one thing, you think a teacher could do to help you, based off information relating to your learning style.

The Process

think    Now What ???

Here are some questions to help you get started. These are questions to consider when exploring this idea of "Learning Styles".

  • What kind of information do you need?
  • What is a learning style?
  • What kind of learning style do you have ?
  • Is there more than one kind of learning style?
  • How many leaning styles are there?
  • Can I have more than one learning style?
  • What are the characteristics of my learning style?
  • Can you use graphs or pictures to display your information?
  • How can I use the information I found to help me at school?
  • How can I organize the information I retrieve?
  • Is your web page reliable?
  • Did you get enough information to do everything on the checklist?

I hope that by the time you are done with this porject, not only will you be able to state what your learning style is, but more important you can apply the information to challenges, that you may face in your eductional endevour. It is important to understand how we process things, and what are strengths and challenges are. If we understand how we best learn, then we can adjust our behavior, and modify our environment to conquer the challenges we may face.

Enjoy and have fun with project!!!
