About the Office of Graduate Studies and Research

Mission of Graduate Studies at CWU

Through value, opportunity and quality the graduate education at Central Washington University provides educational advancement and professional development for post-baccalaureate students, addresses the needs of the workforce for highly skilled workers, prepares students for doctoral study, creates partnerships between faculty and students to extend scholarship in important areas of research, creativity, and practice, and fuels the economic development engine of the region through scholarly activity. In all of these ways and consistent with the mission of the university, graduate education prepares students for responsible citizenship, stewardship, and productive lives.

Julie serves as the university's research administrator/associate director of research. She assists faculty and staff in identifying external funding sources, aids in the grant writing process, especially the development of budgets, and ensures that grants are submitted on time and in compliance with University requirements. She also serves as the fiscal and office manager for Graduate Studies and Research. Julie has been employed at CWU since 1986. She received her M.S. from CWU in 1992.

Peggy helps coordinate graduate student financial affairs: assistantships, financial aid, insurance, travel awards for attending conferences and meetings, and CWU Research and Creativity Activity and Summer Research awards.

Dawn serves as the Post Admissions Program Coordinator in the Graduate Office. She assists master's students with the policies and procedures, required forms, graduation, posting degrees and thesis processing. She also handles the graduate faculty recommendation process and assists the Graduate Council committee.

Justine serves as the graduate admissions program coordinator. She assists students and faculty throughout the application/admissions process. She also manages the on-leave program, assists in recruitment efforts and provides back up for the post admissions coordinator.

Diane is a program assistant in the Office of Graduate Studies and Research. She has been an employee of the university since 2002, working with graduate students, both individually and through regular monthly group workshops, on the editing of theses for format, grammar, and adherence to style and thesis regulations.

Dr. Harper serves as the thesis editor. She has taught at Central for 20 years in the English department and also teaches in Computer Science and in the Douglas Honors program. Her job is to provide documentation and writing guidance to the graduate students and review the theses once they are completed for adherence to the thesis regulations, along with documentation, formatting, research methodology, and writing correctness. She completed her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 1996 with a focus on Victorian science and literature.
