Wenas Creek Mammoth Project![]() The Wenas Creek Mammoth Project is a Central Washington University (CWU) scientific investigation of mammoth bones found on private land in the Wenas Creek Valley near Selah, Washington. The investigation is interdisciplinary, using methods from paleontology, archaeology, and geography. The goal of the project is careful scientific recovery of bones and associated artifacts, while placing the finds into appropriate context of physical geography. The project includes summer excavations offered as field schools, public site tours, presentations, and volunteer opportunities. Announcements

We are now planning the 2008 field and visitor season, as well as revising our web pages. Information and application materials for the 2008 summer Field School may be accessed via the Participate! link in the left-hand column. The 2008 summer Field School welcomes college students, selected high school students, and members of the general public to assist in our excavations. The project was included in the History Channel's "Journey to 10,000 BC" which first aired March 9, 2008. See www.history.com for more shows. Watch and see some of the excavations!" The Wenas Creek Mammoth Site is currently closed to the public. The site will be open to the public during our excavations from July 8 through July 31, 2008. Visiting hours will be Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM, with the last tour at 1:30 PM. We will provide more information, including a map, once excavation has begun.
