Discussion Lists

There are many mailing lists to choose from. Each has its own theme and address that handles subscriptions. Once you're subscribed, you'll receive instructions and the address for posting messages to the list. Every message posted to the list is automatically sent to each subscriber.

A word of warning, your mailbox can fill very quickly. You probably won't want to be subscribed to any more lists than you can keep up with on a regular basis. Some lists have more traffic than others. If you are an infrequent user, you'll be better off reading newsgroups.

To subscribe to a discussion list, follow the e-mail links, and compose your message according to the following example (a computer reads the message, so you will need to follow the proper format):

Let's suppose you want to subscribe to edTECH, and your e-mail address is george@washington.edu

  1. Leave the subject line blank
  2. In the body of your message type the following: subscribe edTECH george@washington.edu
  3. To unsubscribe from a list, follow the same format substituting the command unsubscribe
