COURSE DESCRIPTION AND GOALS: Music 252D is an introduction to the oboe and bassoon in terms of basic teaching techniques and minor proficiency. Class time will be spent learning the basic fundamentals of each instrument and how to relate these teachings to public school education. A student earning a passing grade of C or better in this class will be
able to: 3. TEXTS AND OTHER MATERIALS: a. Required Text: Dietz, William, ed. Teaching Woodwinds. A Method and Resource Handbook for Music Educators. New York: Schirmer, 1997. b. Oboe Oral/Demonstration Exam 25 % Oral exams will not be during class time but in my office for approximately 15 minutes. Sign up sheets will be posted prior to each exam. b. Grading: 90% and above = A, A- c. Absences: Since this class is essentially a group lesson, the class can not move
forward unless all students are at the same level. I will request that you sign the form stating that you understand these attendance guidelines. Verbal Changes to assignments, due dates, etc. given in class will always take precedence over what is written in the syllabus. d. Late Assignments: Personally, I feel that there is no good reason for turning an assignment in after the scheduled due date, other then your death. But, if something else should come up, here are my policies. An assignment is considered late if it is turned in after 12pm for a morning class or after 5pm for an afternoon class the day the assignment is due. Assignments will be lowered one letter grade for each class day late. A weekend will count for at least two days late. No assignments will be accepted after the scheduled final exam for the class. 5.
