Double Reeds Studio

bass clef graphicBassoon students at CWU receive an hour private lesson each week as well as a weekly master class. The literature studied will vary depending on the student’s ability/progress. There will be a strong concentration on technical facility which will include all the major scales as well as all forms of the minor scales, etudes, and orchestral excerpts in addition to solo material. It is expected that each student will learn how to make their own reeds before the end of their course of study.

The subject matter of the master class varies each semester. Topics can range from reed making, orchestral excerpts, bassoon ensemble music, to solo literature.

Students will play in a variety of ensembles which may include concert band, wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, and chamber music groups. All bassoonists will become familiar with the contrabassoon as well.
