Introduction to Corrections

The corrections track of the LAJ degree prepares students for careers as corrections officers, probation and parole officers. The knowledge and skills attained allow a graduate to be employed not only locally, but state and nationwide.

After graduation most people go into the workforce. If you want a heads up on everyone, visit the careers page.

Its important to know that as a LAJ graduate you are not limited in your choice of careers or vocations. Precisely the opposite is true. In fact, the LAJ degree opens up more doors than one expects.

Here are some of the careers that LAJ graduates have gone into from their respective tracks, outside of the careers that they specifically prepared for at CWU:

Corrections Track

  • Account Exec. at a wholesale distributor
  • Grants analyst for a county government
  • Probation counselor at a county juvenile court
  • Juvenile counselor for juvenile corrections
  • Case manager for mental health
  • Coordinator for city parks and recreation
  • Psychiatric childcare counselor

Entry level corrections officers can expect $20,000 or more annually, while probation and parole officers can make up to $30,000 a year to start.

All three possible careers will be in great demand in the future as they are right now.For more information on careers in corrections, visit the "Careers Page."
