Conference Mission

As we at CWU have been creating the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies in recent years, we have been impressed by Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies’ capacity to break down borders and build bridges among communities. This year ath the Pacific Northwest Foco Reigonal Conference we are proud to present the following themes:

  • Points of contact between Latina/o and Chicana/o Studies
  • The border between the United States of America and the United States of Mexico
  • The fluidities of gender and sexual identity
  • Latina/o, Chicana/o, Latin American realities and experiences
  • Hybrid identities
  • The relationship between higher education institutions and surrounding communities
  • The relationships among underrepresented groups in the United States of America
  • Power dynamics among the powerful and the less powerful
  • Regional realities of the Pacific Northwest
This conference aims at a conversation regarding these and other issues.
