Web Assignment 5: Focus Country Travelogue

Due: In class, Tuesday, March 7

You should write, in your own words, a 2 to 3 page typed, double-spaced travelogue about an imaginary visit to your focus country. Research into your country's human geography will be necessary to successfully complete this project. Plan to spend at least a week there.   You may choose a day-by-day diary style format for your report, or simply stay in narrative prose format, as I have done in my example from Fiji.

Please refrain from simply recounting a tourist itinerary of  standard most likely attractions visited. To earn the maximum points (20), you need to inject into your narrative likely observations of all of the the topics we have studied this quarter as they pertain to your individual country. These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Population characteristics: cultures or ethnic groups
  • Culture traits: food, music, sport, language, religion, house types, settlement pattern
  • Livelihood: agricultural land use, manufacturing plants, mining, fishing, forestry, tourism
  • Urban patterns and functions: villages, large towns, cities, markets, ports
  • Political geography: refugee dilemmas, border situations, boundary disputes
  • Environmental problems: human impacts on local environments

  •

You should also determine how you arrived in your country, starting from Sea-Tac airport, how much that cost, where the major airport is located in your country, and what modes of transport you took to travel through your country.
