Instructor: Jann Van Stralen

Class Overview and Introduction:

This class and unit is designed to help teach students how to survive out in the wilderness in case of an emergency. This will give them a chance to see what the wilderness is really like and help them understand the real dangers of being out in the open wilderness. It is nothing like the city and many students have never been out where there are bugs or animals that are wild. It also teaches them how to take charge and take control over the fear they may have when lost. It is a great way to give students confidence in themselves when they figure out how to handle a situation.

The students will learn how to make shelters in any situation. How to find water and firewood to keep themselves warm. They will also learn some first aid to take care of situations that may come up. This class will help prepare them for an emergency, whether it is that a plane crashed down out in the middle of nowhere or if they just went hiking and got lost and had to stay out overnight.
