The figure on the left is a compass rose.  It gives the 16 most commonly used traditional compass directions.  Students should be familiar with these primary directions.  A simple activity to do after introducing the compass rose and letting the students study it is to give them a blank copy (figure on right) and have them fill in all of the lines.
