| Informational Letter to Parent/Guardian About Team Handball Unit | |||||||||||
| Dear Parent/Guardian
of _____________________, Hello from the Physical Education Department! It is a great pleasure to be in contact with all of you again. I am writing you today to inform you about the unit that your son/daughter has been currently participating in during PE hour. During this last week, we have been spending time becoming familiar with the world-wide sport of Team Handball. I emphasize the "Team" in Team Handball, because this sport is often confused in the United States with the American formed sport of handball, which is played with a small rubber ball on a raquetball court. Instead, Team Handball is a sport played with seven players, who work together to score goals and protect their own goal. The sport is played on a court that has similar dimensions to a basketball floor, and goals that resemble field hockey in their size. The strategy of the sport resembles soccer and basketball in the way that screens are set and the ball is passed. Despite the fact that Team Handball is just beginning to grow in the United States, it is the second most popular sport in the world! As I said earlier, we are about one week deep into this two-three week unit. During the remaining time we have, I hope to sharpen the skills within the sport, that your son/daughter has only been introduced to at this point. Once your son/daughter has readily familiarized themself with these skills, I plan to give all the students time to apply these skills and concepts in various games that are somewhat similar to an actual game of Team Handball. As is always the case, my goal is to find an activity level for your child that is appropriate for him/her. This means that students will be challenged, but not confused or frustrated. I think we are all very excited to continue with this final portion of the unit, and see what fun we can have with this exciting sport! If you would like to print and sign your name below, your child will get points when they return this to me. As always, I am available to speak to any of you about your son/daughter or about what is going on in class. I look forward to hearing from you! Sincerely, Casey Adcox | |||||||||||
