Team Handball Lesson #6
Topic: Passing, Catching, Shooting

Concept:
Applying basic skills already covered, into how they will be utilized when playing Team Handball.

Skill:
Eye-hand coordination, Throwing/Catching.

Objective:
Students will be able to have good communication and eye contact when passing and catching.

Lesson Activity / Drills:

- Using two balls, pass the balls in groups of three.
- Form two lines 10 paces apart behind the baseline. Two players run down the court while tossing the ball back and forth. The last toss goes to the first person waiting in the opposite line -- go to the end of the other line.
Modification: Add one line to the center and repeat the drill.
- Form a circle with one person centered with one ball or two people centered (back to back) with two balls. The center person tosses a ball to a person in the circle, who tosses the ball back. This action is repeated progressing one person to the right.
- Standing 10 paces from a wall, bounce or throw the ball against the wall and then catch the rebound.
- Toss a ball directly in front of you -- run to retrieve it on the first bounce -- takethree steps and bounce pass the ball to partner -- backpedal to original position. Partner repeats drill.
- Form a line in each corner of the half court. Each player passes the ball to the right and follows the ball to the end of that line. For two balls, start them in opposite corners.

Games:
McGladry Ball: Students are divided into two teams. Each team advances the ball by passing to teammates. Incomplete passes are considered turnovers. Running and dribbling are not permitted while the player has possession of the ball. A goalkeeper is in front of each goal. A point is scored when a team gets the ball in the opponent's goal (only the goalie is allowed inside the goal area or 6 meter line). The goal can be a circle or square on the wall.

Number Pass:
Each player is given a number and should remember the player whose number precedes him/her. Player #1 begins the game and passes to player #2, player #2 passes to player #3, etc. Players should run randomly over the predesignated court area.

Emphasis should be placed on motion and different types of passes (baseball, bounce and jump passes).

Ten Passes Drill:
Players are lined up in basic offensive and defensive positions. The offense must make ten passes before shooting. Points are scored for making 10 passes and for a successful goal. Emphasis should be placed on the offensive players attacking the goal. No contact is allowed on defense.

Diagnostic Assessment:
At what speed and accuracy can students pass the two balls in groups of three (task #1)?

Formative Assessment:
Are students able to perform drills with any consistency or flow?

Summative Assessment:
How many balls can a group of four consistently pass and catch in a square, using good eye contact / communication?
