Team Handball Lesson #5
Topic: Combination of Offensive Skills: Passing/Catching, Shooting, Dribbling.

Concept:
Incorporating different aspects of the offensive game into a working relationship. Providing students with the understanding of normal progression of skills in an offensive possession.

Skill:
Dribbling/Gathering, Throwing/Catching, Eye-hand coordination.

Objective:
Students will be able to perform an offensive possession with a partner in the correct progression.

Progression of the Offensive Attack:
First, initial gathering of the ball.
Second,
passing the ball. Third, catching the pass. Fourth, dribbling if not open for a shot. Last, shooting on goal.

Lesson Activity / Drills:

Ballhandling:

Refer to Lesson #2
.

Passing/Catching:

- Using a baseball throw, jump and pass ball to partner while in the air.
- Using a baseball throw, jump over a line/object and pass to a partner.
- Using a baseball throw, jump and throw ball over partner/defender.

Shooting:

- Using a baseball throw, throw the ball at the target with a defender standing at arms length in front of the shooter. The shooter can throw over or go to the right/left of defender who should remain still. Distance of the target may vary.

Dribbling:

- Dribble in a straight line and change directions/hands on a signal from the instructor.
- Dribble and pass ball to partner on signal.
- While moving, dribble the ball in place at one speed, then increase / decrease the speed.
- While moving, dribble with one hand, then switch to the other hand.
- While dribbling, move ball around legs in a Figure 8 pattern.
- Dribble behind back.

** Instructor must make up a beginner, intermediate & advanced course according to difficulty to perform an offensive possession (ie. obstacles, target size, etc.).

Games:
End-Line Handball: This game is played without a goalie and goal, but instead uses a goal area (see Figure 3). After taking a throw-off at center court, the offense passes the ball back and forth while moving up the floor attempting to cross the baseline. If the ball is caught in the goal area, one point is awarded. The defense attempts to intercept the pass and moves toward the opponent's goal area. The three step and three second rule should be enforced. Dribbling is not permitted.

Run and Shoot:
This game is Team Handball with three exceptions:
- Game is played on one half of the court.
- Game is played without a goalie.
- Offensive players are not permitted inside the 6 meter line under any circumstance.

The object of the game is for the offensive team to score a point by moving the ball past the defense and shooting for a goal.

Each team has six players each. The primary focus of the game is to develop teamwork. If the offensive team loses possession of the ball, one point is awarded to the defense. After five attempts or a given time period, players switch offensive / defensive positions. Total points for both offensive and defensive play are cumulative. The team with the most points at the end of the period is the winner.

Diagnostic Assessment:
Does the performance level of students fall off the previous status-quo when a partner is added to a combination of tasks?

Formative Assessment:
How well are students incorporating the information from previous lessons all together? Are they noticably better at certain aspects and struggling to implement the others?

Summative Assessment:
Can students successfully perform an offensive possession with a partner on at least one of the courses?
