| Topic:
Dribbling Concept: Emphasis on using the dribble to set up the pass or shot when it is not initially there upon receiving the ball. Providing students with the proper dribbling technique and knowledge of when to use it. Skill: Hand-eye coordination, Dribbling and gathering. Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate the proper dribbling technique. Dribbling Cues: The dribbling hand is open with the fingers slightly spread, use the lower arm, wrist and fingertips in the dribbling motion. Lesson Activity / Drills: Dribble the ball with one hand while: - Standing still - Walking in straight line - Walking and turning right/left Run slowly and dribble ball using: - Palm of the hand - Whole hand - Fingers - Fingertips Dribble with the left hand; switch to right hand. Dribble, changing hands with each bounce. Dribble, increasing or decreasing speed while traveling down the court (cues from instructor). Games: Dribble Tag: Students pair up with one handball per group of two. Students must dribble on the cue of the music within the boundaries of the activity area. Student who has the ball is trying to protect the ball from their partner, who is "it". Once the ball has been successfully knocked away from the partner who is dribbling, the roles switch with the person who was "it" becoming the dribbler. Whoever is not it at the end of time is winner. Rules: Students may not make physical contact with their partner on purpose or in the act of reaching to steal the ball (similar to a foul in basketball), students must stop on the cue of the music ending and listen for further instructions. Keep Away: See Lesson #3 for rules and procedures. Add dribbling to the previous rules and procedures. Diagnostic Assessment: Brainstorm with the class to see how many different types of dribbles can be thought of (from soccer, basketball, etc.). Have students demonstrate the dribble that they identify. Formative Assessment: Are students keeping the ball under control during the drills? Summative Assessment: Students partner up and show their partner proper dribbling while stationary and while moving. | ||||||||||||||
