| Games: Speed Throw: Place an equal number of balls and players on each side of a volleyball net. On a signal from the instructor, students throw the balls over the net to the other side of the court. Balls are then thrown back and forth. After a designated time, throwing stops, and the team with the fewest number of balls on its side of the court is declared the winner. Keep Away: Divide the class into two teams. The object of the game is to make five consecutive passes to teammates without losing possession of the ball. The game begins with a throw-off at mid-court. The team with possession of the ball tries to maintain possession for five consecutive throws (passes). If five passes are made without being dropped or intercepted, one point is awarded. If the opposing team steals the ball, it begins passing and attempting to score a point. Rules of the game: The winner of the game is the team scoring the most points. Running and dribbling are not permitted while the player has possession of the ball. No body contact is allowed. The ball may not be stripped with the hands by the defending players. If the ball is dropped, possession is given to the other team. Modification: A player is permitted to run three steps with the ball. A free throw is awarded to the opposing team for a violation. A player is permitted to hold the ball for three seconds. Diagnostic Assessment: Through discussion, how many students have played a sport that requires the overhead throw/pass? Formative Assessment: How many students are using the proper throwing technique during the games? Summative Assessment: Can students draw a picture showing the proper throwing technique? | |||||||||||||||
