| Team Handball Lesson #10 | |||||||||||||
| ** This lesson may take one day to three days, depending on the
amount of time you wish to spend. It may also lead into a class tounament
of modified Team Handball games. Topic: Various games of Team Handball. Concept: To apply skills learned from the unit in various modified lead-up games of Team Handball. Skill: All skill themes covered in the unit. Objective: Students will be able to participate successfully in a game or at a level that is appropriate for their ability. Lesson Activity / Games: * These games may or may not be going at the same time to allow students to be participating at a level that keeps them in "flow". Sideline Team Handball- The object of the game is to have the players on the court try to score a point for their team with the help of the sideline players. Court players set up in the basic handball offensive and defensive positions with six players each on the floor and one goalie for each team. The remaining players line up on either sideline. The game begins with a referee's throw (jump ball) at the centerline. Balls passed out of bounds are passed back into the court to the active players who try to get in position to score. Sideline players cannot score points. The team scoring the most goals is the winner. Encourage active players to pass the ball to sideline players as they advance down the court. Running and dribbling are not permitted while the player has possession of the ball. Players may be substituted when desired. Target Relay (See Task Cards)- Players are divided into relay teams; each group is given one ball. In a relay format, one player runs to the six meter line, takes a shot on goal (3' x 3' target on the wall). Then the player must gather the ball, and run to return it to the next team member in line who will repeat the process. For every successful shot on goal, a point is awarded. Try to keep teams around 3 players so that each student gets as much repetition as possible. Bench Ball- Divide players into teams. Place a bench near each goal and have a player sit on the bench. Using Team Handball rules and positioning, pass the ball to the player on the bench for a goal. Modified Game Team Handball- Add modifications that you feel are necessary in regards to; number of players on teams, type of equipment, rules or procedures of game (ie. # of passes before shot), etc. Diagnostic Assessment: Are students having any success with the lead-up games? How much? Are they too easy or too hard? Formative Assessment: Can students have success while obeying the rules and modifications of the lead-up games, or do they cheat? Summative Assessment: Have all students been engaged in one of these utilization games? | |||||||||||||
