Camping and Hiking Unit Plan
By Tony Ledenko

Course Description:

When you think of hiking, most people imagine heavy packs, walking sticks, trails, climbing, steep rocky terrain, wild animals, and dehydrated food. However, do not  forget about the miles of walking, torrential rains, hot or freezing weather and the beauty of where you are and have been. All  the while feeling proud from the knowledge that you were there powered only by will and alot of walking. Backpacking has become increasingly popular with every year. People of all ages love the wilderness and the beauty it holds

We all have our reasons for fleeing our dwellings for an outdoor adventure. Whether a good old camping trip, picnic, over night backpack trip or a few hours hike in the mountains, desert or on the beach of your favorite lake or ocean. What ever the reason, I think most of us can benefit from the magic and the mental and physical therapy of the great outdoors away from the fast pace of normal life. Again, it is as I said before; everybody has his or her own reasons!

Each student must fully participate in each selected activity, varying from hiking to camping, it is essential that 100 percent cooperation take place during the camping trip.  Since there is no standard evaluation assessment for this course, it is extremely important for all the students to be on time, and interact in each activity.
