Lesson 5
Topic:  Target shooting and practice

Concept: Getting students to aim in a specific direction.

Skill: hand-eye coordination, using different forces, aiming

Objective: Students will learn how to shoot the ball towards different targets.

Lesson activity: (materials needed: hula hoops, stackers, jump ropes, open field, softballs, gator balls, rubber balls, cones)

Instant Activity:  Pac Man

Students will have an opportunity to practice aiming and hitting specific targets.  this will help prepare them for setting the ball into the area and space that they would like to win at bocce.  the object of this game is to get closer to the pallino ball than anyone else on the other team.  You may also hit the pallino ball as long as it doesn't go out or hit the backboard.  Here are some of the stations that will be set up for them to go between and practice.

1.  Hula hoops set up in different areas and distances to allow student to try and land the ball inside of the hoop.  They must throw underhand like in the game of bocce.

2.  Stackers will be set up where the students must try and land next to the stackers as close as possible.

3.  Have another station set up with two different colored stackers and have one color be the opponents ball be one color.  They must shoot the ball between the blue stacker and the white stacker.  If they are able to do this then they receive a point.

4.  Have gator balls set up around in an area and the students must be able to land there ball on or around it and try to make it move towards a cone.  This will help them practice moving the pallino ball towards their own colors.

5.  Set up jump ropes at different distances and have the students try to throw them past a certain rope.  You can have different colored ropes or same colored but the object is to be able to hit or have the ball land and stay around each one of the cones.  If it goes past the sixty foot marker than they have to start over.  This will help them with their throwing the ball different distances.

To make it more challenging for the students, have them pair up and play against partners or trios to see who can add up the most points.  Every time you get one of the goals accomplished then you receive a point.
