Concept: Ability to throw hard or soft to be able to hit targeted area.
Skill: Hand-eye coordination, body control.
Objective: Students will be able to generate different forces.
Lesson activity: (materials needed: balls, lines, cones, multi-colored stackers, hula hoops)
Instant Activity: Watch it
The students will have different obstacles and lines in which they must get the ball over or land onto. This will cause them to use different amounts of force. We will talk about how to use the different amounts of force and what they will be used for. These will be the obstacles:
1. A line about 10 feet away and object is to land on or within a foot.
2. Two cones about five feet apart parallel to the line the students are on. It is about 15 feet away and they want to have the ball land over the line. You must throw overhand. The ball must stay within three feet.
3. Stackers will be places sporadically in an area with different
colors. the object is to hit the stacker on top of them. For
each color there will be different points awarded. This will
also depend on how far away the stackers are. For instance if the
red stackers are close they would be worth 5 points, yellow 10, white 15,
and green 20 points. this allows for a challenge to see who can get
the most amount of points.
4. Students must roll the ball onto designated lines (lines on a football field work). Have them start out with five yards away up to 20 yards away.
5. Have hula hoops set up around an area and see if they can get a ball to land and stay in it.
The students will have the option to go around between all of the stations but they must try all of them. They will be given specific instructions that they do not throw or release a ball if someone is standing in front of them. They must take turns at each station. If one station has a long line then they must go to another station. There should not be a problem about lines if you are set up outside. Just make sure that the students watch out for each other. The forces that they are creating at each station is dependent on how far, high or close they need to throw the ball. Explain the different forces at each station before hand and review with students after they go around them a little bit. Ask them which ones needed more force than others.
