COACHING STANDARDS EXPLANATION

What steps are required to be a coach?

* Coaches must be District Employees

* Volunteer coaches must be a registered volunteer with the District

* For Initial employment a coach must:

*Hold a valid current First Aid Certification

*Hold a valid current CPR Certification

*Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches for all swimming/diving coaches

 

What are the Beginning Coach Requirements?

* WSP Criminal History Information form on File

* SPI Moral Character Supplement Form completed

* High School graduate

* Head coach-at least 21 years of age

* Assistant coach-at least 19 years of age

* Head coach High School-annually attend a WIAA approved rules clinic in sport being coached

* HIGH SCHOOL COACHES: Complete 30 clock hours of coaching standard courses by the completion of the second year of coaching.

* MIDDLE LEVEL COACHES: Complete a coaching effectiveness training class equivalent to the NFICEP coaching effectiveness class before the beginning of the third year.

What are the additional Coaching Levels?

Experienced Coach: 60 clock hours within the first four years

Preferred Coach: 90 clock hours within the first six years

What are the five Coaching Standards Categories?

A. Medical Aspects of Coaching-Health and Welfare

B. Legal Aspects of Coaching-Litigation, Liability

C. Psycho/Social Foundations

D. Coaching Techniques

E. Philosophy/Sport Management/Pedagogy

Is there a continuous training standard?

During any three-year period of coaching a minimum of 15 clock hours shall be completed by all high school coaches.

What if I have a PE or Coaching major or minor?

Physical Education major/minor or coaching major/minor will be considered to have met WIAA coaching standards and need only meet continuous training standards.

Who is responsible for the record keeping of clock hours?

EACH COACH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING ALL RECORDS AS THEY PERTAIN TO COACHING CERTIFICATION
