Historical Research in Physical Activity

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  1. Explain how historical researchers use paradigms (Relates to the approach the researcher uses to investigate a subject.)
  2. Explain and illustrate differences between primary and secondary sources of information (Firsthand versus secondhand reports.)
  3. Explain through the use of practical examples, differences between descriptive and analytic types of research (Creation of a map versus explanation and interpretation.)
  4. Understand the difference between external and internal criticism in historical research (Is the source authentic versus is the source credible.)
